• Avalanche Skills Training in Gulmarg

  We have established partnerships with third-party vendors offering certified Avalanche Skills Training (AST) courses. While in Gulmarg, you can enroll in a recreational AST Level 1 course through one of the recognized associations:

  American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education (AIARE), or
  Canadian Avalanche Association (Avalanche Canada)

  These courses cover avalanche search and rescue techniques, hazard assessment, route selection, and a range of other critical skills.

3-4 Day AST Level 1 Course (program may vary by vendor)

• Theoretical insights into avalanche incident management.
• Explanation and hands-on demonstration of search and rescue techniques.
• Practical field exercises on using avalanche safety equipment (beacon, shovel, probe).
• Accurate reading and interpretation of avalanche bulletins.
• Techniques for managing the rescue zone.
• Theoretical understanding of avalanche formation factors.
• Introduction to the 3x3 risk management system.
• Practice in evaluating the snowpack.
• Execution and interpretation of snow stability tests.

Course Administration

• These courses are conducted by certified instructors from third-party providers.

• It's crucial to remember that avalanches pose a risk to anyone venturing into the mountains. Without the necessary equipment, proper training, the ability to comprehend avalanche bulletins, and the capacity to assess terrain and risks, it's advisable to stick to in-bounds terrain. Travel, Flights, and Visas

Our guests typically arrange their flights, visa applications, and insurance independently. However, if needed, we can assist you in finding suitable flights. Flights from Europe to Delhi and Srinagar are available with starting prices of approximately GBP 600-700.

When booking domestic flights from Delhi to Srinagar, we recommend departing from the international "Terminal 3". Please allow for a 4-hour layover for connecting flights. If you choose to fly from "Terminal 1", the transfer time between the international "Terminal 3" and the domestic "Terminal 1" is approximately 1 hour.
